NORTH BABYLON HIGH SCHOOL

 GOOD NEWS  . . . .

In June we received from KeySpan and Newsday a plaque for participating in Newsday’s Future Corps.  This plaque was presented to our school to acknowledge our enduring commitment to community service.

Our Girls’ Track team performance in June at the State Championships at  Dietz Stadium in Kingston, New York was very exciting.  Graduate Bianca Fung placed first in the Long Jump (19’ 0.25”) making her State Champion.  She also received her tenth “All State” honors in the process.  Bianca is attending Penn State.  Sophomore Vanessa Stewart placed fifth in the “Shot Put” with a throw of 40’ 0.25”.  She was named “All State” in her first season of high school track and field.

Congratulations  to Charles Chaney, Jr., Meggan Kent, Kourtney Krause and Merissa Principle for being chosen to represent our school at the 2007 NYSSA All State conference in Rochester, New York on November 29th through December 2, 2007.  Thousands of students auditioned for this honor last spring.  Congrats again.

News from the University of Hartford on former student Jeanie Justinvil.  She received the academic honor of being named to the Dean’s List for both the Fall 2006 and Spring 2007 semesters.

This fall at North Babylon High School, students are registered for the Work Cooperative Education Program, which connects academic theory with paid work experience.  Students not only earn while they learn, they often gain a foothold in a position related to their field of study.  There has been an increase in enrollment and this is partly due to our new Co-Op Coordinator, Ms. Michele McDonald who has taken on this position.  She has been eagerly recruiting students and soliciting local businesses.

North Babylon High School was on the 2006-2007 High School Blood Drive Honor Roll for sponsoring two (2) blood drives.

The Association of Long Island Vocational Educators of Western Suffolk BOCES (A.L.I.V.E.) is dedicated to providing outstanding educational opportunities via the Career and Technical Education programs of Wilson Tech.  Jasvir Kaur and Jesse Varela were the recipitants of their scholarships last year.

The Spirit of Soul Dance Studio, Inc. has awarded Kandyce Bryant (2007 graduate) the “Oliver Gene Bridges and Layonya Johnson Memorial College Scholarship.” Kandyce is attending Farmingdale College.
