Class Description:  In this class the students will have the opportunity to explore the basics of the Spanish language as well as learn about culture and tradition.

Materials:

¡Ven Conmigo! Textbook – One will be issued to each student in September.  If lost, the student will be responsible for paying for its replacement.

¡Ven Conmigo! Workbook – One will be issued to each student in September.  If lost, the student will be responsible for making copies of the remaining pages.  Pages 1 – 52 in the workbook will be completed this school year.

Binder – A three ring binder with loose leaf and dividers will be needed.  This binder should be used for Spanish only.

Pens – Blue or black ink only please.  A pencil case with binder holes may come in handy to store your pens.

Requirements:

·        All students are required to be prepared for class every day.  This includes bringing your textbook, workbook, binder and pen to class with you EVERY DAY. You will need to take accurate notes every day.  Be sure to date and label ALL of your work.  At the end of each quarter you will be given a notebook quiz.

·        Homework will be checked on a regular basis.  Everyone will begin each quarter with a 100% Homework Exam grade.  Each missing homework will deduct 5 points from that grade.  Some homework assignments may count as double, depending on the assignment.  Homework will not be accepted late nor can you make up any homework assignment for credit.  In the event of an extended absence, arrangements may be made.

·        If you are absent from class, you are still responsible for the material that you have missed.  Exchange phone numbers with at least 2 people in your class.  If you know in advance that you are going to miss class (field trip, vacation, band, etc.) you must ask for any assignments for the class/classes that you will miss.  You are still responsible for those assignments and will be expected, within reason, to complete them by the required date.

·        There will be an exam or quiz every Friday.  Tests will count twice and quizzes count once.  If you are absent on the day of an exam or quiz, you must make it up within a week of your return or it will be a zero.  All failed quizzes or exams must be signed by a parent/guardian and returned in a timely manner.

·        You will be assigned a report each quarter.  Reports count as a test grade.  Reports that are turned in late will be penalized 10 points for each day of lateness.

·        You will be required to speak and participate in class.  You will be expected to speak in Spanish whenever possible.

·        Chapters 1-6 from the textbook will be covered in this course.

A final exam will be given at the end of the school year.  The final is given in four parts:  Speaking (20%), Listening (20%), Reading (40%) and Writing (20%).
