Ms. V. Triscritti: Special Education

6 ALP, Language Arts, AIS- Reading

Welcome to Robert Moses Middle School!  This year we have so many new adventures to explore in class. We will be building skills in the areas of reading, comprehension, word attack skills, writing, and vocabulary development. In order to make this year successful, there are a few things you need to know.

Arrival and Dismissal from Class:  Students are expected to be in their seat with their binder, folder, signed agenda, pens/pencils, and homework before the bell rings.  Homework is to be copied from the board before the bell rings.  Any student who is late without a pass or who is unprepared may receive detention.

During Class:  Students need to be prepared and ready to work.  Once the bell rings, nobody is permitted to leave.  Passes will be given in emergency situations.  Students are not permitted to go to their lockers during class.

A great deal of time during class is spent on reading, listening, comprehension, and writing skills.  Students need to raise their hand during class.  Students must also behave appropriately during class.

Homework:  Homework is on most every night.  On those nights when there isn’t any written homework, students should be reading.  Homework assignments may be collected and graded as tests.  Five points will be deducted for each day an assignment is late.

In addition, a homework grade is given for non-graded assignments.  Each student will start the quarter with a hundred.  For each missing assignment, five points will be deducted from their homework grade.  At the end of the quarter, the remaining grade will be averaged in as a test.

If for some reason, a student forgets to write their assignment in their agenda, they can check the NBSD website and visit the Homework Net.  All assignments are posted weekly.

Grades:   Students are given a numerical grade each quarter.  Grades will be based on homework, written assignments, and tests.  Written assignments count twice.

Monday Letters: Each Monday, students receive a weekly progress report.  Please review all the grades and classroom performance with your child.  I am requesting that you return the signed Monday Letter the next day.  This is another way to keep you informed of your child’s progress.

Agenda:  Every student will receive an agenda.  The agenda is to be used in ALL subject areas.  Students need to carry their agenda with them at all times.  The agenda is to be signed every night by a parent.  Parents are also encouraged to use the agenda as a means of communicating with the teacher as well.

Extra Help: Extra help is given after school during 9th period on Wednesdays and Thursdays or on an as needed basis.  All students are encouraged to take advantage of extra help.

Homework Center: The Homework Center is available to all sixth grade students during ninth period.  Staff members are available to assist you.  This is a great place for you to get your homework done and to study.

Classroom Policies:

Discipline Policy: If a student is late, disruptive in class, conducts him/herself inappropriately, or is unprepared for class, he or she may receive detention.  Parents will be contacted and a note will be written in the agenda.

Students who miss detention will be assigned an additional day.  Any student, who fails to show up for detention after a second chance has been given, will be referred to the Dean.

If a student is absent, the following steps should be taken:

1.       Students should call their “study buddy” and request the work to be collected and sent home.

2.       Parents are encouraged to call the Guidance Office and arrange for work to be picked up by someone, if the absence is two or more days.

3.       Students are responsible to make up all tests, quizzes, graded assignments, and projects.  In addition, students need to get any notes that they missed.

I am looking forward to an exciting year! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 321-4148, or send me an email. My address is vtriscritti@northbabylonschools.net
