Recycling Questions and Answers

1.  What would you say to kids about recycling?

I would tell kids that recycling is one of the most important and simple things they could do to help/save the environment.

2.  When did you start recycling?

I have been recycling since I was a kid, but it wasn’t until about 8 years ago where I started to take a more active role towards recycling everything possible.  Until then it was just simply recycling aluminum cans.  I now recycle paper, plastic, glass, and metal.  I even recycle clothing by giving it to “Goodwill.”

3.  What should people recycle and not recycle?

People should start with what works best for them.  Many people don’t realize that recycling is as simple as having 3 garbage pails.  That’s it!  A container for all paper, a container for bottles and cans (glass, plastic, and metal), and a container for trash (food, tissues, napkins, tape, etc.).

4.  How should kids start recycling?

My advice is to go home and talk to your family about recycling.  Take the initiative to get 3 separate containers for your “garbage,” and start doing it.  It’s so easy.  It simply goes out to the street on a different day for your town sanitation department to pick up.  You can also take it to a recycling center yourself and get paid for it.

When you are not at home (school, parks, beach, etc.) look around for containers to separate your garbage instead of throwing it all out.

5.  Would global warming or pollution stop if we recycle?

Recycling by itself will not simply stop Global Warming, but it is a great start.  Did you know that the number one item people throw away is paper?  If more people started recycling it, paper wouldn’t go into our landfills, and we would not need to cut down as many trees.  In addition, it requires 40% less energy to make new paper from recycled paper as opposed to fresh lumber.  This will indeed cut down on the burning of fossil fuels and harmful carbon emissions which cause Global Warming.
