Siemens Science Day at MGV On Friday, June 6, 2008, Staff Members from Siemans USA, Parent Volunteers, and Ten Students from Mr. Jaeger's AP Biology Class Coached the Fifth Grade Students at MGV in Performing Three Science/Engineering Activities. Students Were Asked to Build a Tower from Spaghetti and DOTS, to Create a Device to Protect an Egg from Breaking, and to Build an Electric Motor. Thank You to Mr. Glenn Schmid and the MGV Site-Based Team for Sponsoring the Event.
Little Doctors On June 3, 2008, MGV, Parliament Place, Woods Road, and Belmont Elementary Schools All Participated in the Second Annual Little Doctors Programs. All Fourth Grade Students in These Schools Were Taught About the Components of Blood and the Necessity to Donate Blood in the Classrooms by Professionals from Long Island Blood Services. All Students in Each of the Buildings Were Then Asked to Solicit Volunteers for the Blood Drive. 49 Pints of Blood Were Collected by These Schools to Help Meet the Summer Demand on Long Island. The Event Was Coordinated Through the Schools' Site Based Teams. Next Year's Blood Drive Will Take Place on June 2, 2009.
North Babylon First Graders Celebrate Arbor Day Thanks to Suffolk Legislator Wayne Horsley and the Babylon Rotary, The Students of North Babylon Were Once Again Given Tree Saplings to Plant at Their Homes in Recognition of Arbor Day. Town of Babylon Earth Day Contest On Saturday, May 3, 2008, the Town of Babylon Hosted Their First Annual Earth Day Celebration. In Conjunction With This Event, Covanta Energy Sponsored a Science Fair Contest with Monetary Awards for the Winners. North Babylon Submitted 4 Projects and Cameron Billings was Awarded an Honorable Mention and a $100 Prize. Congratulations to All Who Participated. Brookhaven Elementary Science Fair Winner On May 3, 2008, 15 North Babylon Students Submitted their Projects to be Judged for the Brookhaven Elementary Science Fair. Out of 20,000 entrants, Andrew Becvar Received an Honorable Mention for His Second Grade Project Entitled: The Wii Video Game Exercise Experiment. Congratulations to All the Participants!!!!

On Saturday, March 29, the New York Section of the American Chemical Society held the 2008 Chemagination Competition at St. John’s University. Fifty teams competed in the competition. Under the direction of Mr. & Mrs. Jaeger, North Babylon entered five submissions and took the silver prize in three out of the four categories. These students were directed to design and write a 2000 word article describing their scientific invention that would impact our world. The tricky part is that the whole competition is based in the year 2033. Congratulations to those students who participated in this event!
The 18th Annual Science Olympiad Was Held At North Babylon High School on Saturday, March 1, 2008 On a cold and rainy Saturday morning, over 160 students arrived at North Babylon High School, at 8:30AM, to participate in the 18th annual Science Olympiad. Students competed in 10 events and the winners are as follows: First Place: Ashley Breuer, Michael DeClara, Shannon Lange, and Pamela Lopez Second Place: Brian Berkowitz, Ashleigh Brady, Faith Mobley, and Tausif Noor Third Place: Peter Baietto, Paul Hilding, Jonathan Roman, and Kamil Wiecko
