North Babylon Board of Education

Appoints New Superintendent

The North Babylon Board of Education is pleased to announce that Dr. Robert Aloise has been appointed to the position of Superintendent of Schools. The Board unanimously approved his appointment at a special meeting on November 29, and Dr. Aloise is scheduled to begin his tenure in the North Babylon School District on January 28, 2008, the first day of the new semester. He joins North Babylon from the Port Jefferson School District, where he has served as Superintendent for more than two years.

“I am so pleased to return to the North Babylon School District, which, coincidentally, is where I had my first school experience,” commented Dr. Aloise, who attended the Deer Park Avenue School, now known as Marion G. Vedder Elementary School. “I truly feel as though my career has come full circle.”

Dr. Aloise is a product of Long Island’s public education system, having attended schools in North Babylon, Central Islip, and Levittown. He returned to Long Island after college and his resume boasts teaching and administrative positions in various Long Island school districts.

“The Board of Education is very impressed with Dr. Aloise’s experience – not only in the education field in general, but more specifically his vast experience with Long Island’s public education system,” commented Board of Education President Janet Meyerson. “We are certain he will be an excellent leader for the North Babylon School Community.”

Dr. Aloise assumed his first teaching position as a sixth-grade teacher in the Deer Park School District, where he taught for three years before traveling to Sydney, Australia. In Sydney, he taught primary school for two years while learning a new culture. Upon his return to America, Dr. Aloise served as a reading specialist in the Deer Park Schools. In the late eighties, he became an elementary building principal in the Seaford School District, followed by seven years as principal of the Alden Terrace School in Elmont. He later moved on to assume the position of Director of Curriculum and Special Education in Valley Stream District Thirteen, and then served five years as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in the Massapequa School District. From Massapequa, Dr. Aloise further advanced his professional career to his current position as Superintendent of Schools in Port Jefferson School District.

Dr. Aloise attended the University of Montana, where he graduated magna cum laude in the field of elementary education with a minor in history.  He later enrolled at Columbia University’s Teachers College and earned a Masters Degree in reading and psychology. In 1994, Dr. Aloise earned his doctorate from Columbia University as well.

Dr. Aloise has a proven track record of improving instruction as well as assessment results. He has also been very closely associated with New York State PTA, serving for three years as Special Education Chairman and three years as Juvenile Protection Chairman. A true child advocate, he looks forward to working closely with the school community in North Babylon in providing the very best education possible for each child.
