BOARD OF EDUCATION

A seven member Board of Education, elected by the people, and serving without salary, is responsible for the schools.  Each member serves a term of three years.  Elections are held on the third Tuesday in May.  Regular public Board meetings are generally held on the third Thursday of each month at 8:00 pm at the Robert Moses Middle School.

Senior Citizens' Privileges

1)    Tax Exemptions:  A senior citizen is entitled to a partial exemption from school district taxes up to 50% off the assessed valuation when the following minimum conditions exist:  

a)  All owners must be 65 years of age or where the owners are husband and wife, one spouse must be 65 years of age or over.

b)  All owners must reside on the premises.

c)  Property must be the legal residence of all owners.

d)  All owners must be the recorded owners for one year prior to applying.

e)  Combined income of all owners (or spouse) cannot exceed the maximum allowed by law, which is based on a sliding scale to a maximum of $28,900.

f)  Does not apply to vacant land.

Notes:  A child residing on the property, who attends a public elementary or secondary school disqualifies the exemption.  Application must be made annually, on or before March 1.  The tax relief will then be applied to the tax year beginning December 1.  Residents who believe they are qualified for the exemption, or who desire further information, should contact:

2)  Residents of the North Babylon School District who are 60 years or older will be issued a "Senior Citizens ID Card" which is available at Central Administration, 5 Jardine Place, North Babylon, New York  11703.

Card holders are entitled to free admission to official North Babylon student cultural and home sporting events.

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) aim to establish a good home school relationship so that the teachers and parent/guardians can work together effectively for the complete development of the child.  PTA/PTSA affords you the opportunity to become familiar with the educational philosophy of our district, as well as its curriculum, personnel and problems.
