Bulldog Bulletin - January 2024 Edition

From the desk of Dr. Graham.....

January 2024

North Babylon  School District Students, Families, and Staff

I hope that this installment of the Bulldog Bulletin finds you well.   January is a very busy month in schools as we return from the Holiday break, transition from the first semester to the second semester at our middle school and high school, and continue ahead with engaging learning activities.   This is also the time of year during which we  ramp up our planning for the next school year.

One area that we are focused on at this time is the 2024-2025 school budget development. As a part of this process, I attended the Suffolk County School Superintendents Association Legislative Breakfast with members of our Board of Education.  During the session I was fortunate to present on the North Babylon School District Story related to advocacy for our district. I invite you take a moment to view the slides from that presentation.

I am also excited to share that we have a program available to all of our high school students for free online tutoring. The district is working with TutorMe to offer this service which is available from 4pm-11pm daily. Check out the link for more information on this great opportunity for our students.

Our high school students are starting the course selection process for the 2024-2025 school year and we are very excited to implement a nine-period day at the high school next year. The nine period day is offered at the vast majority of schools across Long Island, and we are looking forward to including it in our offerings here in North Babylon. The nine period day will provide our students with greater flexibility in their course selections, give increased access to electives, allow students to earn more credits in high school, decrease class size in certain courses, and will provide students access to pursue more career pathway courses or advanced study classes.

At the January 11, 2024 Board of Education meeting there was a presentation on the nine period day which you can view here, and the 2024-2025 High School Course Selection Guide may be viewed on our High School homepage under Guidance.

January also marks the start of the registration process for the upcoming school year. Please take a moment to check out information on the PreK program as well as Kindergarten registration.

In addition to the information here on our website, you can follow us on our social media feeds and download the district app (Android or iOS).

Parliament Place 'All In' Student - Muhammad Faizan

Muhammad is in his second year at the Parliament Place Elementary School. His teachers unanimously agree that Muhammad exemplifies the 'All In' student. Muhammed is so hard working and really puts the effort into his work which has resulted in him making impressive progress. He is an active participant and is very inquisitive, as he is always asking questions to learn more. Muhammed gets along well with his classmates because he shows kindness and respect for others. He often shares with other students and is a role model. Muhammed often takes the initiative to assist in the classroom with tasks just to help out. He loves playing the bass in his orchestra classes at Parliament Place.

Fifth Grade Concert Performances

North Babylon 5th Grade musicians held their first ever in-school assemblies for their fellow classmates.  In each building the 5th Grade Band, Chorus and Orchestra performed two songs for their 3rd and 4th grade peers.  These assemblies were designed  as an introduction to the musical opportunities all students have when they enter 4th grade and to model the Spring Concerts for the  4th graders who are eagerly preparing their music. We are proud of our 5th grade musicians for their hard work!

Please check out video of a few of the fifth grade performances.
