Junior Presented with Heroism Award

North Babylon High School junior Ryan Ticas was recently presented with the Heroism Award by the Town of Babylon. The Heroism Award is the town’s highest honor, and Ryan received the award for his quick-thinking actions at a local beach. He was presented the award by Supervisor Rich Schaffer and the town board. 

In mid-July, Ryan was at Cedar Beach with his father when he noticed an elderly man in distress in the water. Ryan saw the man was bleeding and rushed to help him. He brought him to shore and alerted lifeguards. Shortly after, the man was airlifted via helicopter to a trauma center. 

Ryan is a varsity football player and member of the National Honor Society at North Babylon High School. He is pictured with Principal Dr. Jonathan Klomp.
