Robert Moses Middle School held an afterschool program to help students better understand celebrate the meaning of Eid al-Fitr. Observed this year at sundown on March 30, its name means "festival of breaking the fast." It is a major Islamic holiday celebrated at the end of Ramadan, marking the end of the daily dawn-to-sunset fast. Students learned the importance of fasting and how sweet treats are often associated with the holiday. At the end of the program, they used stencils and henna to create designs on their hands, a tradition that is said to bring luck and happiness.
