North Babylon's April E. Poprilo Brings More Than Two Decades of Educational Leadership to Curriculum and Instruction

AprilWith more than 20 years of experience advancing opportunities for students, educators and school communities, April E. Poprilo continues to provide visionary leadership as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in the North Babylon School District.

Mrs. Poprilo's career spans school psychology, special education, curriculum leadership and district administration, providing her with a comprehensive understanding of the systems and practices that support student achievement and well-being.

"I am excited to be part of the North Babylon leadership team and learning community," Mrs. Poprilo said. "The district has a strong commitment to inclusivity, student engagement, academic achievement and growth for all learners. I look forward to working alongside our administrators, teachers, and families to build upon North Babylon's many successes and continue creating opportunities for every student to thrive."

Throughout her career, she has led initiatives in literacy, special education, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), social-emotional learning, culturally responsive assessment and the expansion of universal prekindergarten. Her commitment to strengthening literacy instruction and supporting students with learning differences is reflected in her work with the New York State Education Department's Path Forward Initiative, which focuses on integrating the science of reading into teacher preparation programs and certification requirements. She also served on the state's Dyslexia and Dysgraphia Task Force, helping to examine evidence-based screening practices and interventions for students with learning differences.

Prior to joining North Babylon, Mrs. Poprilo served as District Superintendent of Western Suffolk BOCES, where she provided strategic guidance, policy implementation support and regional leadership to 18 component school districts. She also served as Interim District Superintendent for Nassau BOCES and Eastern Suffolk BOCES, strengthening collaboration among educational leaders across Long Island.

As Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Mrs. Poprilo will oversee curriculum development, professional learning, assessment and districtwide instructional initiatives designed to strengthen teaching, expand access to rigorous learning opportunities and improve outcomes for all students.
