Science Students All In for Shellfish Project

Posted Date: 11/05/24 (11:00 PM)

On Oct. 15, the students involved with the shellfish mariculture project (BOCES Outdoor Ed) took part in the final stage of the project. Last spring, the students seeded (planted) approximately 50,000 hard clams and 5,000 oysters into the waters of Stony Brook Harbor. The students removed the now-grown shellfish from carts that they built, transferred them into bins, and loaded them onto the bay constable boat. The boat then took them into the harbor, where the students spread the shellfish, by hand, out into the waters. It was a very hands-on operation, and the students were all in.
