Belmont Students Show Off Coding Skills During Joust

Posted Date: 6/16/25 (4:00 AM)

Students at Belmont Elementary School have been learning about the medieval period during this year’s Battle of the Books. As a culminating event on June 6, students participated in a joust using Dash robots. Working together in small groups, library media specialist Ms. Olsen tasked the students with outfitting their Dash robots with helmets, shields and lances prior to the joust using LEGO, tape, popsicle sticks, straws and cardboard. Once the robots were ready for battle, students used Blockly software to code them to knock a pingpong ball off a cup using their lance. The groups then went head-to-head in a joust by programming their robots accordingly.
