Robert Moses Middle School Joins PLAN Pilot Program

Posted Date: 10/08/25 (:00 AM)

Robert Moses Middle School in the North Babylon School District is proud to announce its selection as one of just 23 schools across New York State to participate in the PLAN Pilot program, a groundbreaking initiative designed to transform how students learn, think and engage with the world around them.

At the forefront of this innovative work is a dedicated team of sixth-grade humanities teachers — Jodi Rosengaten, Jay Pollock, Emily Andersen and Juliet Daly — who have spent the summer in professional development, writing and creating brand-new curriculum to launch this initiative. Their efforts culminated in September with the debut of an eighth period PBLA humanities unit, designed to connect classroom learning with real-world applications.

The team’s first project, student-created time capsules, invites learners to gather artifacts that represent the people, values and dreams that shape their lives. More than a simple school assignment, the time capsules serve as meaningful explorations of identity, heritage and aspirations, becoming touchstones for personal growth in the years to come.
This cross-curricular approach builds on the school’s successful sixth grade Exploratory Class model, now expanded to integrate English language arts, social studies, research methodology and community engagement into one cohesive, purpose-driven experience.

“Our teachers are inspiring students to think beyond traditional classroom walls,” said Principal Stephanie Hasandras. “The PLAN Pilot gives us the opportunity to reimagine learning in a way that is both rigorous and deeply personal.”

As Robert Moses Middle School continues to refine its approach throughout the school year, the PLAN Pilot is expected to spark lasting impact by helping students develop the skills, connections and confidence they need to thrive in an ever-changing world.
