‘Snow’ Much Fun at Marion G. Vedder

Posted Date: 01/30/26 (12:00 AM)

Prekindergarten students at Marion G. Vedder Elementary School had “snow” much fun during a special snowflake celebration on Jan. 23. The winter-themed event created a hands-on learning experience where students rotated through a variety of engaging activity stations focused on creativity, fine motor development and early STEM skills.

As students traveled from station to station, they were encouraged to explore, problem solve and work together while enjoying festive winter activities. At one station, children practiced their hand-eye coordination by tossing soft “snowballs” into a bucket, cheering each other on as they aimed for the target. Another station focused on strengthening fine motor skills, where students used tongs to carefully pick up snowballs and feed them to a friendly yeti, an activity that required focus, control and patience.

In a STEM-based station, prekindergartners became young engineers as they designed and built their own one-of-a-kind snowflakes using marshmallows and toothpicks. The activity encouraged critical thinking and creativity as they experimented with shapes and structures while learning about building and balance.

Students also expressed themselves at winter-themed coloring and art stations, where they created festive pictures inspired by snowflakes and cold weather scenes. The snowflake celebration was designed to support early childhood development by blending play with purposeful learning. Through hands-on activities, students strengthened important academic and social skills while enjoying a joyful winter experience.
