February 2026 Updates

What a cold and snowy month we have had! Once again, I have to say thank you to our facilities, maintenance, custodial, and transportation staff for their efforts with snow removal throughout this entire winter.

Even with the cold and snow these past few months, there have been so many exciting events and activities taking place throughout our schools. Our students have been engaged and challenged in their classes, competing in academic pursuits and athletics, and performing in concerts and productions. And, with everything going on, I feel like I blinked my eyes, and here we are moving into March and preparing for everything that we have to look forward to this spring.

Within this edition, I am sharing some information about the district's Title I programs, some of our Black History Month Celebrations, security updates, athletic happenings, and the calendar for our upcoming budget season.

Spring will be here soon. In fact, in just a little over a week, the high school athletics season will begin.

Thinking warm, spring thoughts. As always, please reach out to us if you have any questions.

Title I Important Information

Here in the district we are in the process of a comprehensive review of our policies and procedures related to our federal funds. As a part of this process, we are inviting your feedback and participation. Please see below for some important information related to Title I, Part A .

Consistent with the parent and family engagement goals of Title I, Part A of NCLB and its reauthorization in the ESSA Act, the Board of Education works to develop and implement programs, activities and procedures that encourage and support the participation of parents and families of students eligible for Title I services in all aspects of their child's education.

Please take a few minutes to check out the links below and provide us with your feedback:

  • The Board policy committee will be revising Policy 7660 - Parental and Family Engagement in the coming weeks. The policy can be found by clicking here:

  • We invite you to respond to the following feedback survey on this policy ahead of the revisions.

  • As a part of the district's Title I programs, we encourage parents/families and students to join us in a commitment to student success. If you are interested, we invite you to complete the School-Parent/Family Compact by clicking below:

  • Annual Title I meetings take place for the district and schools. Some of our schools held them already, and others have them scheduled within the next month. During these meetings the district provides an explanation of Title I program requirements, discusses parental rights, and seeks parent and family input. The schedule of the remaining meetings is below:

North Babylon High School - March 12
Robert Moses Middle School - March 25
Woods Road - March 18
District Meeting - April 14

Additional information about each of the meetings will follow.

Black History Month Learning and Celebrations Throughout our Schools

2026 marked the 100th Anniversary of Black History Month. Throughout the month students at each of our schools studied about and celebrated Black History Month, and the events capped off with celebrations and performances by our students at both RMMS and NBHS.

Bulldogs Winter Sports Update

Our students and coaches were giving it their all throughout the winter season. Nearly 600 student athletes at both RMMS and NBHS competed in interscholastic athletics this winter.

All of our teams competed hard with some earning team league championships and individuals earning all-league, all-county, and even all-state recognition. We have a number of athletes continuing on at the state level.

Earlier this week, 11th grader Melania Turano placed 6th at the NYSPHSAA Girls Wrestling Championships, earning her All-State Honors. There are NB athletes continuing on at the State Championships in Boys Wrestling, Track and Field, and in Bowling. Good luck to all of the Bulldogs competing at the State Championships over the next two weeks.

School Security Update

The construction of the security vestibules at each of our schools is nearing full completion.

In the coming weeks, as each building's vestibule is completed, you will notice enhanced visitor management procedures being implemented. During the school day, all visitors to our schools will be required to enter at the security vestibule. Prior to entry, all visitors must provide a government-issued photo ID which will be scanned and used for screening. Once admitted, visitors will receive a badge to be worn at all times while in the building. At the conclusion of the visit, visitors will exit the building through the same set of doors and return the ID badge to our staff.

More information will be shared with the community in the coming weeks.
