Posted Date: 03/27/26 (12:00 AM)

Students in Ms. Zumpol and Mrs. McGroary’s class at William E. DeLuca Elementary School marked World Down Syndrome Day with a meaningful lesson focused on inclusivity, empathy and kindness.
As part of the activity, students expressed their understanding of inclusion by writing messages on colorful socks and decorating them with their own creative designs. The project centered around the message, “In our world, everyone belongs,” encouraging students to reflect on the importance of acceptance and respect for all individuals.
Students also created handprint displays labeled “Always remember,” sharing thoughtful reflections such as “Share your heart with the world.” Through their words and artwork, students demonstrated a deep understanding of how small acts of kindness can help others feel seen, valued and included. The completed display transformed the hallway into a vibrant space filled with messages of connection and belonging. The project highlighted that inclusion begins with simple actions such as listening, noticing and celebrating each person’s uniqueness.
