In recognition of Black History Month, second graders in Ms. Owens’ class at Woods Road Elementary School are spending the upcoming weeks learning about a different influential or historical figure in Black history each day.
Students begin their lesson by watching a movie and reading a book about their significant figure of the day. The second graders write facts about the person and their impact on Black history. At the conclusion of Black History Month, the students will create a booklet featuring all the people of influence. Some notable figures include Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., George Washington Carver, Jackie Robinson, Marian Anderson, Garrett Morgan and Dr. Mae Jemison.
