On Feb. 26, New York State Parks and Recreation representatives visited William E. DeLuca Elementary School to share a Black History Month presentation with third grade classes. This year’s theme featured Black laborers. Presenters spoke about their different positions at the parks across Long Island, including human resources assistant, director of waterfront parks and the first female mason worker. Collaborating with members of the environmental team, students rotated through different hands-on learning centers as they were educated about the offerings within Long Island’s parks.
